Sindh Government Declares Public Holiday for Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5

The Sindh government has officially declared a public holiday on February 5 across the province to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day, according to a notification issued by the provincial administration on Monday.

Official Notification and Observance

The notification confirms that Sindh will observe Kashmir Solidarity Day on Saturday, February 5. This annual event is observed throughout Pakistan to express solidarity and support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Federal Government’s Prior Circular

In December 2021, the federal government had already included February 5 as a public holiday in its circular of public and optional holidays for 2022. However, an official notification for the holiday at the federal level has yet to be formally issued.

Historical Context and Ongoing Tensions

The Kashmir issue remains a persistent flashpoint in relations between Pakistan and India. Islamabad has consistently urged the international community to facilitate a plebiscite in the disputed territory, as stipulated in United Nations resolutions.

Annual Observance

Each year on February 5, Pakistan rallies, seminars and other events toirm its political moral support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. The public holiday allows citizens to participate in these activities and demonstrates the government’s commitment to the cause.
